Born on this date (September 26) in 1955 to Grand Ole Opry sweethearts Carl Smith and June Carter of country music's first family, it wasn't long before Carlene Carter made her own name with her self-titled debut album in 1978. Her 1990 album and single I Fell In Love earned her even more fans and a Grammy nomination. Recent albums include Carter Girl (her acclaimed tribute to her family), Sad Clowns & Hillbillies with John Mellencamp, and The Carter Family Across Generations.
