Carlene Carter To Be A Featured Performer At Nashville Women Sing For Choice!

Nashville Women Sing For Choice!, a musical event honoring the 53rd anniversary of the Supreme Court's historic Roe v. Wade decision, is scheduled for Wednesday, January 22nd at the ‘58, Eastside Bowl in Madison, TN. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi. Carlene Carter is set to headline the evening with a suggested minimum donation of $10 at the door; the venue is located at 1508 Gallatin Pike South. Doors open at 6PM with performances slated to start at 7PM.

Carlene Carter, who currently makes her home in Old Hickory, TN was born in Madison, TN and is a third-generation member of The Carter Family, the widely acknowledged progenitors of country music. Her mother was June Carter Cash and her grandmother was Mother Maybelle Carter of the original Carter Family. Her father was Country Music Hall of Famer Carl Smith and her stepfather was, of course, Johnny Cash. She proudly refers to herself as “a Carter Girl” and has been responsible for such classics as “Easy From Now On,” as recorded by Emmylou Harris, and her own major hits including the GRAMMY®-nominated “I Fell In Love” and “Every Little Thing,” both of which reached #3 on Billboard’s country singles chart. She most recently appeared at Atlanta’s Fox Theater as part of Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration in Song along with Chuck Leavell, D-Nice, B-52s, Angelique Kidjo, Drive-By Truckers, Duane Betts, Eric Church, Maren Morris, The War and Treaty, The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chamber Chorus, and BeBe Winans.

She recently commented about her participation in Wednesday’s benefit, “When I was approached to be part of the Nashville Women Sing For Choice fundraiser for Planned Parenthood, I immediately said 'yes’… actually, I said ‘hell, yeah!’ That’s because I believe strongly that women should be able to make their own reproductive decisions without interference from the government or anybody else. I’m looking forward to joining my sisters in song to support Planned Parenthood and the vital work they’ve done for so long in the field of women’s health.” Other artists who are slated to appear include Whit Hill, Stephanie Jacques, Dana Kay, Regina McCrary, and Jonell Mosser, with surprise special guests expected. The event will be hosted by WMOT’s Jessie Scott.
